Cuttack, July 3: Uttar Pradesh and Pondicherry registered huge victories against their respective opponents in the Junior Girls’ National football championship at different venues here Sunday.
At the Barabati Stadium, Pinky Kumari scored six goals including a double hat-trick to help Uttar Pradesh spank Andhra Pradesh 12-0. Pinky struck in the 51st, 60th, 72nd, 73rd, 84th and 92 minutes. Pooja Kumari (46th, 67th, 85th and 90th) also scored four goals including a hat-trick.
Pondicherry thrashed Chandigarh 6-0 at the Orissa Police Ground. R Sandhiya stole the show with five goals. She scored in the first, fifth, 11th, 28th and 82nd minutes respectively. A Sivasankari found the back of the net in the 32nd minute.
In another match at the Orissa Police Ground, Tamil Nadu pipped Assam by a solitary goal. Rasiga scored the all important goal of the match in the 37th minute. Assam players tried their best, but could not find the equaliser till the last moment of the match.
In another match at the Barabati Stadium, Kerala edged out West Bengal 3-2. Unnimaya scored a brace for Kerala in the 43rd and 74th minutes respectively. Anagha found the back of the net in the 57th minute. Sayani Naskar (75th) and Sunita Sarkar (81st) scored for West Bengal. But that was not enough for West Bengal’s rescue.
Cuttack meet Rourkela
Cuttack and RSP entered the final of the Senior Inter District Men Sahani Cup football championship after winning their respective semifinal matches at different grounds Sunday. The final will be played at Sambalpur, Tuesday.
In the first semifinal at Redhakhole, Cuttack defeated Angul 5-4 via tie breaker after the match ended in a 2-2 draw in the regulation time.
In the second semifinal at Bargarh, RSP also defeated Phulbani 5-3 via tie breaker after the match ended in a 1-1 draw in the stipulated time.
