Governor SC Jamir confers a degree on a student of Utkal University at the 47th Convocation Ceremony held on the varsity campus in Bhubaneswar Tuesday.
Bhubaneswar: Utkal Universityst conducted its 47th convocation here Tuesday with a new theme song ‘Tunga Sikhar Chula’ by varsity founder member Godavarish Mishra.
Governor and chancellor SC Jamir awarded degree of honoris causa to Justice Basudeb Panigrahi, professor Nimai Charan Panda and Tapan Kumar Chand.
The chancellor also awarded more than 250 Ph.Ds and 90 gold medals to scholars and emphasised the need for out-of-the box thinking and quality teaching.
“The university must emphasise quality research and the focus should be on innovation and out of the box thinking. There is also a need for problem based learning rather than the traditional spoon feeding knowledge methods and it will prepare the students for the job market,” the chancellor said. Eminent nuclear scientist professor Srikumar Banerjee who was the chief guest spoke about the importance of innovative thinking.
“The process of innovation involves imagination, out of the box thinking and the ability to find the best option out of possibilities. The spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship seen in today’s young graduates will lead the country in the path of rapid development which will transform this country,” Banerjee hoped. PNN
