Bhubaneswar, March 2: Utkal University defeated hosts SOA University by 50 runs in the first semifinal to enter the final of the VIth SOA Premier League (SPL) cricket championship here Sunday. Utkal scored 171 runs in their allotted 20 overs after being put in and then restricted SOA to 121 in 18.5 overs.
Riding on a cameo by Om Bikash (40, 22b, 6×4, 2×6), Utkal piled up 171. Mazher Ahmed (3/28) was the most successful SOA bowler. Priyanath Sanyasi (34, 25b 5×4, 1×6) and Rajesh (31, 30b, 3×4, 1×6) batted well but could not help SOA win. Rakesh Mohapatra (3/16) and Nilu Prdhan (3/24) bowled well for Utkal.
