Cuttack: It may be a shocker to those who feel absolutely at home after keeping their gold and other valuables in bank lockers as valuables and cash in a bank locker have gone missing from a bank branch at Chandnichowk in Cantonment police limits here.
The matter came to light after the victim brought it to the notice of the bank authorities. Subsequently, the officers of the zonal office of bank have launched an investigation into the matter.
According to sources, the complainant had kept property documents, cash, gold and silver jewelleries worth crores of rupees in the locker. He had been frequently using the locker till 2013. Since then he had not used the locker. However, he paid the annual fee for using the locker till 2016.
The complainant said he has the keys of the locker with him. However, he recently learnt from the bank that now the locker is no longer registered in his name. The victim submitted a written complaint to the bank authorities November 18.
“We are enquiring into the circumstances leading to missing of valuables from the locker. We will take action once we ascertain it,” a bank official said.
A technical team of the zonal office of the bank are probing the matter, the bank official added. The victim Thursday lodged a police complaint in this regard following which the police have started a probe.
“We’ve registered a case and began investigation in the matter. We will issue notice to the bank concerned to furnish details documents about the locker,” inspector-in-charge of Cantonment police station Biswajit Mohanty said.
