New Delhi: The Odisha government Thursday withdrew a special leave petition (SLP) filed in the Supreme Court challenging the interim order of Vansadhara Water Dispute Tribunal (VWDT) in December 2013 granting relief to Andhra Pradesh for construction of barrages on River Vansadhara.
A two-judge bench of the apex court comprising Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman and Justice Vineet Saran disposed of the matter after the petition was withdrawn by the state government.
The VWDT had passed its judgement on Vansadhara water dispute in September 2017 and the state government had filed another SLP to challenge the verdict in the SC in the same year.
The SC bench observed that since a petition has already been filed against the final verdict of the tribunal, this SLP filed against interim order shall be withdrawn by the petitioner.
The VWDT in an interim order in 2013 had allowed the Andhra Pradesh government to construct the side channel weir along with the ancillary works as proposed and has, inter-alia, directed for constitution of a three-member Supervisory Flow Management and Regulation Committee on River Vansadhara.
