Kaptipada: Vigilance sleuths from Baripada and Balasore arrested two police officers of Kaptipada police station in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday while they were receiving a bribe of Rs 20,000 for facilitating bail to a person and releasing his vehicle.
The sleuths took the accused IIC Brajbandhu Nayak and ASI Rabinarayan Suar to Baripada Vigilance office for further investigation.
According to a report, two groups had clashed in Kaptipada bazaar September 29, leaving five persons were injured.
Police registered two case following complaints from both sides. The accused persons in this case had got bail from the High Court, but the order mandated that the accused should be present before the investigating officer along with their bail orders.
Tapan Kumar Barik, one of the accused, met the IIC and the ASI and sought bail order permission and release of his vehicles.
But the two officials demanded Rs 40,000 for the job. Finally, Tapan had agreed to pay Rs 20,000, but approached the Vigilance with a complaint.
The Vigilance sleuths arrested the cops along with the money. PNN
