Boinda: Tension gripped Tapdhol village in Athamallik block of Angul district Saturday after a man suffering from fits died under mysterious circumstances while being treated in a Dhenkanal hospital.
The deceased was identified as Manu Behera, (45). Behera’s family and villagers cried foul over the death and detained a woman named Gayatri Nayak, ambulance driver Prabhat Kumar Sethi and his assistant Harekrsuhna Nayak who transported the body to the village. They also blocked the road by placing the body on the Paikasahi-Mundasahi Road.
The villagers demanded compensation for the bereaved family. Police seem to be clueless as Boinda IIC Babakhya Nayak said he had no reports about the development.
The villagers said Behera was suffering from fits for years. His condition deteriorated after he failed to walk Thursday.
Meanwhile, Gayatrai Nayak of nearby Antulia village advised them that Behera will be cured if he is admitted to a private hospital in Dhenkanal district. Believing her they admitted Behera at the hospital, and he died during treatment.
Later the woman reached the village carrying the body in an ambulance, and villagers and Behera’s family detained her and the ambulance driver.
