Bantala: A man, whose daughter committed suicide January 31 after a video featuring her clips went viral, Friday attempted suicide by consuming poison.
Fearing social stigma after her boyfriend uploaded a video clip on social media, the girl from an area near Bantala in Angul district consumed poison January 31.
Following a complaint from family members, police Thursday arrested the accused Dinesh Sahoo, a married person.
Under stress, the deceased girl’s father made a suicide attempt Friday. However, family members rushed him first to Bantala CHC and then to Angul district hospital.
The police after releasing three mediators, including a woman, produced the accused in a local court Friday.
Three mobiles that were seized from the accused and mediators have been sent to forensic laboratory, police said.
The deceased girl and accused Dinesh allegedly had a three-year-old affair. They got to know each other at a common friend’s place.
As the girl did not have her own personal phone she used her family phone to talk with the accused and at times also made video calls. Very frequently, the deceased, the accused and the common friend used to go for picnics.
The girl committed suicide after the accused uploaded an intimate scene between them on social media platforms. Her family members also saw the video clip.
