A bizarre yet amusing incident that happened at an aquarium in Dalian City, China, has now gone viral online. A man visiting the area where visitors can interact with a beluga whale decided to break the rules by lighting a cigarette, despite numerous “No Smoking” signs around the enclosure.
According to reports, under Chinese law, smoking is strictly prohibited in all indoor public spaces. Aquarium staff rushed to stop him, but he ignored their repeated warnings.

Unexpectedly, the beluga whale approached the edge of the tank and sprayed a strong jet of water that immediately extinguished the cigarette. The man was left stunned, while onlookers were delighted by the whale’s surprising action. The moment quickly became an internet sensation.

The workers at the aquarium later clarified that the entire incident was actually part of a rehearsal for a safety awareness video designed to promote fire safety and highlight the dangers of smoking in restricted areas.
While the video sparked debate online, with some viewers believing it was real, many praised the creative approach and the beluga whale’s unexpected ‘hero’ role.
Regardless of the setup, the clip has become a light-hearted reminder of the importance of following public safety rules. After all, if a beluga whale can enforce a no-smoking rule with such precision, there’s really no excuse for ignoring the signs.
