Kendrapara: In a crackdown on criminals, Kendrapara police late Friday night arrested a dreaded criminal following an encounter near Garapur village here.
The accused has been identified as Hrusikesh Mallick.
According to police officials, acting on a tip-off, police launched a raid on him. A team of police personnel opened fire at four criminals, who were on their way back from Aul after attempting a loot.
Seeing the cops, he tried to flee in order to evade arrest. This led to an exchange of fire between the cops and Mallick in which the criminal sustained bullet injuries on his right leg. While three of his associates managed to flee from the spot.
Mallick was initially rushed to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
Notably, Ganjam police September 15 arrested Pramod Barik following an encounter near Palur area. Seeing the cops, he tried to flee in order to evade arrest. This led to an exchange of fire between the cops and Barik in which the criminal sustained bullet injuries on his right leg.
At least two constables also sustained injuries in the incident.
