Nayagarh: Wanted criminal Kabuli Khan was nabbed in a joint encounter by the Nayagarh town police and the Gania police at Solapata-Darapada road near Bhuinaasi hill here late Sunday night.
The 40-year-old, injured in the firing, was taken to the district hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
A special squad of the Nayagarh Town Police and the Gania police intercepted Khan on the Solapata-Darapada road. On seeing the cops, Kabuli opened fire at them and attempted escape. The cops returned the fire and he fell from his bike after a bullet hit his right leg.
A country-made pistol, four live bullets and a bike were seized from his possession, informed Nayagarh SP Ashish Singh.
The police said Khan was a resident of Ichhapur village near Begunia in Khordha district. He has over 20 criminal cases pending against him in different police stations in Nayagarh and neighbouring districts.
