Jatni: Water flows on roads at several places in Jatni town due to negligence by the Water Supply Department.
Thousands of litres of water are wasted daily and roads are getting destroyed as underground pipelines are developing leaks. The massive leakage is creating problems for pedestrians too.
Water is leaking at Andhra Bank Chhak, Masjid Chhak, Haribhaina Chhak and near the Bachhara-Patna Road.
The people have complained to the Public Works Department, but they have not done anything to solve the problem. If someone complains about the leaks to the Water Supply Department, the latter asks them to repair the road.
Meanwhile, a notice was issued to Sitakanta Satpathy by the PWD, saying that if water connection is given to his house it can cause leakage.
Sitakanta said, “Water connection was given to us as per rules by the department. Around a month ago water started leaking on the road.”
Assistant Engineer Arun Kumar Subudhi said, “This kind of situation arises when people take illegal water connections to their houses. The leaks will be repaired soon.”
Akshay Das, a lawyer, said leakages waste water and damage roads creating transportation problems.
People warned that if the department did not solve the leakage problem they would stage protests at the PWD office.
