Weather update Feb 24: Thunderstorms likely in these Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds are very likely at isolated places in several districts of Odisha by 8:30 am Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 30-40 kmph in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, dense fog is likely in isolated pockets in Jagatsinghpur, Khurda and Puri districts. Shallow to moderate fog is also very likely during early morning hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Khurda and Puri districts.

Light rain or thunderstorms are very likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the state.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to move eastward and weaken gradually over the next 24 hours.
