Sambalpur: The cancellation of a weekly train from Sambalpur to Banasbadi in Karnataka has triggered widespread resentment among the local people and passengers here.
As per information, a weekly train from Sambalpur to Banasbadi was running regularly with 100 percent occupancy. The train was leaving Sambalpur Wednesday at 9.30 AM and reached Banasbadi the next day evening; catering to the needs of the people of Western and Southern Odisha.
But cancellation of the train without any valid reason from November 16, 2018 has deprived the people here of the facility. Students and the patients are the worst sufferers due to cancellation of the train.
While railway clarified that the train has been cancelled due to modernisation work in the other end.
When contacted the divisional operation manager (DOM) of Sambalpur M Hirwe said, “Due to renovation of the Banasbadi yard, the train has been cancelled.”
However, the Railways has not given any schedule as to when the train service would be resumed.
