Bhubaneswar, May 16: In a breather for people of western Orissa, the Met department here Saturday predicted rain and thundershower to occur in the next 24 hours which will lead to a dip in temperatures.
Western Orissa has been reeling under heatwave conditions for the past few days. Met sources said the formation of a trough line might help trigger rainfall over some districts of western Orissa. On the other hand, coastal parts of the state are predicted to witness squally weather conditions.
“A trough line has formed that runs from east Bihar and extends up to Jharkhand crossing western Orissa. As an effect of this, rain or thundershower would occur over most places in the western belt of the state. This will further lead to a dip in temperature,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.Amid rain and squally weather condition, only Titilagarh recorded a high of 40.3°C while other places recorded comparatively decreased temperatures. Kankadahada in Dhenkanal district received highest rainfall of 123.3mm Saturday.
Sahu said a cyclonic formation was detected over Bay of Bengal Friday, but it has turned its course towards Bangladesh and will not affect the state. Another anti-cyclonic system was also formed that has triggered humid conditions over the coastal stretch, he informed.
The capital city will continue to witness humid weather condtions as the skies are expected to remain cloudy with rain or thundershower expected to occur towards Sunday afternoon.
