Bhubaneswar, May 24: Stating Congress has no moral right to criticise the Narendra Modi government, Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman Sunday said the government has given a corruption-free and transparent government to the country in the past one year.
While there was a ticket scam almost every day during UPA II, the NDA government has wiped out corruption at all levels and successfully provided a corruption-free and transparent government within a year, she said, adding, “We will sustain the tempo for next four years as we believe in accountability.”
“The Congress is making baseless allegations. We welcome a constructive opposition. Otherwise, the people will ask why you (Congress) are becoming speed-braker,” said the minister.
The party has been creating hurdles in passing important bills because of their numbers in Rajya Sabha, she added.
With regard to the Centre’s decision to introduce e-auction of coal blocks she said such auction has fetched `2 lakh crore from 20 mines through transparent manner at the behest of the Supreme Court.
Taking a dig at the ‘suit-boot-ki-sarkar’ remark by Congres, she said the government has launched several pro-people and pro-poor schemes. More than 7.5 crore people have come under two insurance schemes including Atal pension scheme.
Slamming Congress for opposing the land bill, the union minister said changes in the law was necessary to ensure smooth acquisition of land for irrigation, construction of rural roads, houses and infrastructure development.
The Centre believed in cooperative federalism and worked in tandem with the states to ensure speedy development, she said.
