Nayagarh: A young widow was raped at Mangarajpur village under Ranpur police limits Tuesday night. The accused, from the same area, has been arrested.
According to a report, the accused forced his entry to the house of the victim.
Notably, a five-month pregnant rape survivor committed suicide at Radanathpur village under Nuagaon police limits in the district,Monday. Police said the stigma of a rape-survivor might have forced her to take the extreme step.
The sexual assault cases against minor girls and women are on the rise in the district despite stringent measures by the police.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik informed the assembly Monday that 4,749 minor girls were raped and 385 gang-raped in Odisha between 2014 and 2017 as per records from police registries. He also said the police has arrested 4,462 persons in connection with the 4,749 minor girl rape cases.
