Aska: Police Wednesday cracked the murder mystery of Shikshya Sahayak (teacher) Maheswar Maharana who was found dead in mysterious circumstances a few days back and arrested his wife, Padmini Swain.
The woman confessed to killing her husband as he stood in the way of her extramarital affair with a relative. Meanwhile, the paramour was on the run for fear of his arrest. Police seized a grinding stone used for the murder. They also registered a case and produced Padmini in a court. “She has been remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected her bail plea,” Aska IIC Santosh Kumar Jena said.
According to police, Maharana hailed from Gurudang village under Saranakul police limits in Nayagarh district. He worked as a teacher at Pathara Primary School under this block for the past six years.
A year back, he married Padmini and the couple was living in a rented house at Babanpur Patna Sahi area here. It was under mysterious circumstances that police recovered the body of Maharana from the house’s bathroom.
Preliminary investigations revealed the murder was the fallout of an extramarital affair Padmini had with her relative. When Maharana came to know of this, a quarrel followed. Padmini and her paramour then hatched a plan to kill Maharana.
As per plan, the two bludgeoned him to death using the grinding stone and later strangled him before dumping the body in the bathroom.
