Rourkela: Seashore director Jyotirani Sarangi, who was lodged in Jharpada jail, was released on interim bail Saturday.
High court granted her bail against a personal bond of Rs 40,000 and two bailers.
Escorted from Jharpada jail amid tight security, she reached Reserve Police here with her lawyers Bijan Bihari Kar and Sunil Bosoyi. She was produced before the Rourkela sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s court at around 10 am.
The HC granted her bail till July 7. She was asked to appear before the court July 7.
Talking to media, Jyotirani said she never indulged in illegal activities or neglected her profession.
Laxmisagar police of Bhubaneswar had arrested Jyotirani from her apartment at Jharpada and sent her to jail June 7 on charge of swindling Rs 75 lakh from Kailas Lenka of Civil Township here.
Lenka had deposited Rs 75 lakh with the company January 30, 2012 at two per cent interest rate on a yearly scheme. He received a Rs 6 lakh cheque from the company towards his four months’ interest. However, he did not receive any commission after that.
Failing to get the interests and the principal amount despite several requests, Lenka lodged complaints with Raghunathpalli police against Seashore managing director Prashant Das, his wife Jyotirani and four others. Police had registered a case against the accused and issued arrest warrants against them.
While Prashant was arrested earlier, police are conducting raids to arrest the other accused.
