Athgarh: With their mother dead and father in jail, three minor brothers have been left to fend for themselves with no one to take care of them thanks to the negligence by the administration.
This was reported from Nrusinghpur under this block in Cuttack district. Even as the minors have been begging, no government officials or NGOs have come to their rescue.
Like other children of their age, the brothers (Ram, Baj and Mohan) lived a normal life with their ailing mother Buduni Soren and father Karuna Soren (45). However, things took an ugly turn after Karuna was jailed for alleged links with criminals leaving behind ailing Buduni to take care of the children.
Buduni did odd jobs to run the family. However, her health kept on deteriorating and led to her death. With no one to take care of them, the three children are seen wandering around and begging for food.
They survive with whatever locals provide them out of sympathy. For survival, the boys fetch firewood from forest and sell it in the local market. Ram, a Class IV student, had to end his studies to take care of his minor brothers.
They have grown weak due to a prolonged period starvation. Even as their uncle and grandparents take pity on them, no one provides genuine care to them, locals said. They demanded the administration take notice of the plight of the boys and rehabilitate them for a better living.
When contacted, Athgarh sub-collector Harischandra Nayak said he was unaware of the incident. Necessary steps will be taken for the rehabilitation and studies of boys, he assured. PNN
