Rourkela: Three children in Lalatangi Santala hamlet in south Rourkela are staring at an uncertain future with the death of their father April 15. In fact, the death turned them orphans as their mother has been missing for three years since now.
According to sources, the deceased, Mohan Purti, 37, had been staying with his wife Lalai Purti and three children Akash (9), Ajad (7) and Simran (5) in the area for a long time. Mohan was a daily wager while his wife was helping him in his work. Three years ago, Lali was reported to have gone away from home, lured by a contractor.
The villagers think Lali is either in Mumbai or Delhi. According to them, Lali had always been tense over her family’s finances. Locals surmise she might have gone to Delhi or Mumbai with the contractor hoping to earn more, though they have no particular information about it.
After Lali had gone, Mohan was facing difficulties in managing and earning for his family all alone. Despite all the troubles, he sent his two sons to the Government Primary School and her daughter to Anganwadi centre.
Tension, heavy workload and poverty had taken their toll on Mohan.
There is none in Mohan’s home to take care of the kids. One of the relatives of the deceased has taken the latter’s daughter to their home. Now the two boys are left in the lurch.
The neighbours said they are trying to find the whereabouts of Lali. If they do not succeed in their efforts, they have no option but to call the relatives of Mohan and hand over the responsibility of the two boys to them.
