Rajnagar: A woman was tied to a tree, beaten black and blue and left to suffer a scorching sun for over three hours by her neighbour’s wife and son after the former’s cow strayed into the latter’s backyard at Kankadia village under this police limits in Kendrapara district Sunday.
The victim was identified as Sabitri Rout, wife of Bira Kishore Rout.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued Sabitri after her son Bichitra lodged a complaint in the Rajnagar police station. The incident has sent shock waves through the area.
It all happened after Sabitri’s cow strayed into the backyard of Chaitanya Jena’s house. Enraged, Chaitanya’s wife Sanjulata abused Sabitri and dragged her out of the house and tied her up in front of her house. Later, Sanjulata, with the help of her son, tied Sabitri to a tree and beat her up.
She remained tied to the tree for over three hours from 11 am till 2 pm under the scorching sun; Sanjulata even refused to give her water to drink when she pleaded with her. On being informed, villagers rushed to the spot and tried to free her, but Sanjulata abused them, too.
