Nabarangpur: A woman delivered a baby boy on the roadside after ambulance failed to reach the pick-up location on time Wednesday in Nabarangpur district.
The incident took place near the new bus stand, approximately two kilometres away from Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH).
The locals expressed concern over the condition of the roads in this area that often leads to higher travel time.
According to locals, the woman had complained of labour pain while she was travelling somewhere Wednesday evening. The locals called up 108 ambulance to shift her to the hospital.
That said, the woman had to deliver on the roadside as the ambulance did not reach on time. Later, the woman and her baby boy were admitted to Nabarangpur DHH where the newborn succumbed allegedly because of delay in treatment.
It may be mentioned here that ambulance not being able to reach the patients is nothing new in this district. In many cases, pregnant women here are carried on cots to the hospital owing to lack of motorable roads.
