Bhubaneswar: A woman was killed and two others were critically injured when a LPG cylinder exploded in OUAT Colony here Wednesday morning.
The blast occurred in a government quarters (2RB-F/4) in which Chandramani Nayak, a senior technical assistant in a college, has been residing along with his family. Chandramani is working as.
Fire officials identified the victim as Subhasini Nayak. “The mishap occurred at 11:30am due to explosion of a LPG cylinder, but how the cylinder caught fire would be known after an inquiry. While Subhasini died on the spot, her husband and son-in-law Saroj Lenka have sustained severe burn injuries. Chandramani’s son-in-law also lost his leg in the incident,” fire officials said.
“Chandramani’s 12-year-old granddaughter and a three-year-old granddaughter escaped the spot narrowly, after the former saw the blaze in kitchen and ran out carrying her younger sister. Chandramani’s mother and a neighbour who was in their quarter, escaped unhurt as they were in another room,” they added.
Meanwhile, Chandramani and his mother have been admitted to the Capital Hospital, while his son-in-law has been admitted to a private hospital here.
After the incident, the fire brigade personnel entered the room by cutting open its iron grills and douses the flames after some time.
