Bolangir, May 3: In a shocking incident, a woman dumped her one and half-year-old daughter at an abandoned place in Gudighat Sundarkata under Muribahal block of Bolangir district Friday afternoon.
According to sources, Sabhya Nag (24) fled the scene after dumping her daughter at the abandoned place. However, some locals suspected the activities of the woman and visited the spot. They found the girl was wrapped up in a towel and alive.
As the news spread, scores of
locals rushed to the spot and started searching for the woman. Later, they spotted her hiding in a bamboo bush near Gudighat and handed her over to police.
The woman told the police that she had married Karran Nag of Mahulpali village under Turekela police limits about five years ago. However, she moved to her parental house at Bijghat along with her daughter after the death of her
husband last year.
After staying there for a few months, she took shelter in her elder sister’s house in Nuamunda about three months ago. She left the house when her relatives were away Friday afternoon and dumped her daughter before being caught by locals, police said.
Child Line officials took the baby into their custody and admitted her to a hospital in Kantabanji. Later, the girl was sent to a shelter home for children at Patharchepa in the
district, sources said. The woman couldn’t speak about the reason for which she committed the crime. She may have done this due to her unstable mental condition, said police.
