Patana: A 19-year-old woman in Patana block of Keonjhar district committed su*cide by hanging Sunday after her husband refused to give her Rs 40 for travel to her parents’ house.
The deceased was identified as Janaki Munda, wife of Bidyadhar Munda from Gohira village under Khadikapada panchayat and Patana police limits in the district.
According to police, Janaki sought Rs 40 from her husband towards vehicle fare to visit her parental house. However, her husband refused to pay her the amount, leading to a quarrel between the couple. An upset Janaki reportedly left the house early in the morning and was later found hanging from a mahua tree in a forest near the village, police said, citing preliminary investigation.
Patana police registered a case (27/25) of unnatural death and handed over the body to the family members after a post-mortem examination at the Patana community health centre. Further investigation is underway, Patana IIC Manas Kumar Mahakul said.
