Malkangiri: A woman Maoist cadre, Nayana Khilo (19) surrendered before BSF DIG (Malkangiri) Brajendra Singh Thursday in presence of Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

Khilo, a native of Sanyasiguda village under Chitrakonda police limits of the district was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on her head.

According to police, Khilo was an active member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) Organisation since 2016 in Gumma Area Committee under Malkangiri Division of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).

She is suspected to be involved in three firing incidents, including one in 2016 and two in 2018. Besides, she was also involved in the torching vehicles engaged in road construction work at Babumundi Ghati near Mudulipada in December 2017.

It was learnt that the lack of proper leadership in the Maoist organisation and being inspired of the state government’s efforts to develop cut-off areas, Khilo quit the rebel outfit and joined the mainstream.

She will be given financial assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Odisha Government, police said.
