Bargaon: Police Saturday detained four persons, including a woman’s husband, after a video showing her being stripped, beaten and paraded in a village square went viral under the police limits in Sundargarh district.
The incident took place at Birimunda village near Timna village under the Bargaon police station limits.
However, no formal complaint has been filed yet, police said. Sources said the woman’s husband works in Bangalore.
During his absence, she had developed a relationship with a local unmarried youth. The youth had stayed at her house for four days.
Villagers, angered by the affair, called a meeting last week where both admitted to their relationship.
Meanwhile, the woman’s husband returned from Bangalore and learnt about her relationship with the youth.
Enraged, the accused husband allegedly stripped the woman and assaulted her in public.
He even took her to a local hospital and got her treated. No one had lodged any complaint at the police station.
However, the matter came to the fore after video of her being paraded naked went viral on social media platforms.
After the video surfaced, Sundargarh SP Amritpal Kaur, Additional SP Santa Samad, SDPO Bibhuti Bhusan Bhoi and local police visited the site and conducted an investigation.
