Woman patient injured as plaster falls off DHH ceiling

Balasore: A woman patient was injured while her mother managed to escape unhurt when a patch of a plaster fell off the ceiling of the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here Sunday.

The mishap took place at the women’s surgery ward at 12 noon. Gouribala Giri of Chandaneswar has been undergoing treatment on bed-66 after undergoing appendicitis operation for the last six days.

A patch of plaster weighing 8 to 10 kg fell off the ceiling right on her left thigh. A portion of the plaster also hit her mother who was resting beside her bed. Fortunately, she didn’t suffer injury.

Mahesh Kumar Rout, a relative of the patient, said the hospital authorities and doctors were well aware of the condition of the ceiling and walls, but no precautionary measures had been taken for safety of patients.
