Jagatsinghpur: In a shocking incident, a woman poisoned her two minor sons and tried to commit suicide at Punang village in the district Thursday.
The younger son Suna Soren (3) died on the spot after consuming the poison while the elder Sanu Soren (8) survived after he vomited the poison soon after his mother made him consume it. Meanwhile, the woman Sabitri Soren (40) was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital.
Tension prevailed at the hospital after doctors said they would conduct the post-mortem of the body Friday. Apprehending violence, doctors later agreed to conduct post-mortem Thursday itself.
According to sources, Sabitri had married Ram Soren of Sagadpata Khadibahali village under Harichandanpur police limits in Keonjhar district about 20 years ago. The couple was parents to four children- Nira Soren (13), Dhaani Soren (10), Sanu and Suna.
Ram got Nira and Dhaani admitted in Padmapur Ashram School. Later, the couple worked as daily labourers for a living and lived with the two minor sons. For lack of work due to the prevailing rainfall, Ram visited his brother-in-law along with his wife and two sons three days ago.
All of a sudden, locals alerted Ram that his wife consumed poison while he was working in a farmland in the wee hours of Thursday. Later, he with the help of locals admitted the trio to the DHH. However, Suna was declared brought dead.
Tension prevailed on the hospital premises after Suna was left abandoned in the hospital. While Ram was busy attending to his wife, medical authorities dumped the body in a corridor leaving the other minor alone.
Sabitri claimed that she was unaware of the poison in a bottle. Assuming it to be water, she consumed it herself and also made her sons drink it.
Police registered a case and an investigation was launched. PNN
