Keonjhar: A woman was set on fire by her husband over family issues at Barpada village under Barbil police limits in this district Sunday night. Family members said the man got angry as the wife sought details of how he spent the Rs 2,500 he had taken from her.
The victim was Jitini Munda, wife of Sushil Gagarai. Amid arguments, he flew into a range and allegedly doused the woman in kerosene and set her on fire. More shockingly, the accused locked up the woman in a room before he fled the scene, police said based on first reports.
Hearing the woman’s scream, neighbours rushed in and rescued Jitini in a critical condition. She was admitted to Barbil community health centre (CHC) with 80 per cent burns, which meant survival was difficult. After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to the Keonjhar district hospital (DHH).
Barbil Police registered a case and a search was on to arrest the accused.
