Bheden, Oct 31: A woman and her son were hacked to death while the woman’s husband was rendered critical in an assault by a roadside vendor over a trivial dispute at Aainlakata village under Bheden police limits in Bargarh district Friday night.
The victims were identified as Rama Nag (55) and her son Jagabandhu (25), a tractor driver. Rama’s husband Biranchi Nag (60) sustained critical injuries in the incident and was first admitted to Bheden hospital and was later shifted to Bargarh headquarters hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police sent the bodies for post-mortem and arrested the accused Rama Patra, a roadside snacks vendor selling puffed rice, peanuts and boiled eggs at Tentulitikra Square. He was produced in court Saturday from where he was remanded in custody after the magistrate rejected his bail plea.
The incident occurred when Biranchi, who was working as a labourer, stopped by at the accused’s stall for snacks. Biranchi asked for eggs which Patra denied, leading to an altercation between the two. Biranchi then left for home.
However, an enraged Patra followed Biranchi to his home with a knife in hand. There, Patra assaulted Biranchi, his wife Rama and son Jagabandhu. While Biranchi suffered critical injuries, his wife and son died on the spot after bleeding profusely.
