Cuttack: The body of a woman was found on the bank of Paika river, a tributary of Mahanadi, at Danduasipada in Kandarpur police limits here Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Gurubari Singh (55), a resident of Brahmanbada and a daily wager. Police sent the body to SCB Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy after registering a case of unnatural death. The police suspect the woman died a day ago.
Another person was seen accompanying her on several occasions, police sources said. According to locals, the woman did not return to home Tuesday night. The woman, originally hailed from Mayurbhanj district, had moved to Aayatapur to work in a brick kiln 25 years back.
After the kiln shut down, she started working as daily labourer. “Whether it is a case of murder or suicide could be ascertained after the post-mortem,” said investigating officer Nimai Charan Sethi.
