India is a fascinating country because of its diversity. One may not agree with some of the customs followed in India, but it is impossible to ignore those also. The more you delve into the traditions and customs the more fascinating India gets.
Well there’s a village where a child has not been born for the last 400 years. Surprised, shocked, taken aback… but then it is true.
The village named Sanka Shyam Ji is situated in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. The inhabitants believe that if a woman gives birth within the village, either the child or mother will die. According to them the village has a ‘curse’ on it. Hence women have to go outside the boundaries of the village to deliver.
Folklore has it that in the 16th century, gods were trying to build a temple in this village. But they were distracted by the sound of grinding which was being carried out by a woman. So they threw a curse on the village. It said that the either mother or the newborn will die if the former delivers a baby within the village perimeters.
The villagers have now constructed a room well outside the village where woman go and give birth irrespective of the weather conditions.
