Bhubaneswar: A district-level workshop on maternal, neonatal and child health, organised by People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC) in collaboration with Adoptioncentrum, was held here Monday.
Inaugurating the event, Finance and Excise Minister Shashibhusan Behera, said, “Everyone has the right to get proper healthcare.”
“From the adolescent stage, girl children should be given proper care. During pregnancy and after delivery, these are the most crucial stages to tackle maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR),” he added.
The minister stressed that people should be aware of the schemes and facilities of the government so that they will be saved from burning holes in their pockets at private hospitals.
Seba Mohapatra, former director health services, stated that proper care should be given on the nutrition and cleanliness of the mother during the antenatal and postnatal periods. Ruby Rout, Country Director of Adoptioncentrum, highlighted that the participation of all stakeholders, irrespective of gender, will go a long way in reducing IMR and MMR.
Among others, Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Secretary PECUC, Adaramani Boral, Chairperson PECUC, Subhendu Nayak, CGM, OSDMA, Akshya Biswal, Chairman, IAG, Odisha, Dharanidhar Nanda, Joint Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, and Nirmala Dei, RMCHA, consultant (Technical), Department of Family welfare, were present.
