Khallikote: In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old boy died after being administered a wrong injection by the son of a village auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) at Bikrampur village under this block in Ganjam district Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Aditya Barad, son of Jogendra Barada of Koelibaikuntha Sahi. The matter came to the fore after the boy’s uncle Sibram Barad lodged a complaint with police.
According to sources, Aditya’s health condition deteriorated after he was injured in his knees. His mother took the boy to local ANM Manorama Bindhani as his pain increased. However, Manorama was absent in the house.
Meanwhile, Manorama’s son Swagat Dash, who was present in the house, administered a wrong injection to the boy. Instead of getting better, Aditya’s health condition worsened and he experienced vomiting and felt dizzy.
Worried family members soon rushed him to Abha Hospital Pvt Ltd near Naval Chhak. He was referred to Khallikote government hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased’s father works as a labourer outside the state while he resided with his mother. The incident spread tension in the area with locals demanding arrest of the accused. Aditya was the only son of the poor family. His mother is left behind with a minor daughter, sources said.
In the absence of his father, Aditya’s uncle and mother lodged a written complaint alleging Dash killed their son by giving a wrong injection. Police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem to Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, Dash and Manorama fled the village locking their house in fear of arrest, sources said. On learning the incident, local Sarpanch Dhanuram Pradhan and Subhajit Mohanty, Mitu Pahan and others reached the hospital and took stock of the situation. They demanded compensation for the accused.
‘It was not clearly known if the boy died due to the wrong injection,” said community health centre officer Sudarshan Sahu adding that exact reason of the boy’s death will be ascertained after the arrival of the post-mortem report.
‘Police will take necessary actions as per the post-mortem reports,’ Sahu added. PNN
