Gunupur: A youth named Brindaban Kadraka was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly impregnating a minor girl under Gunupur police limits in Rayagada, based on an FIR lodged by the girl’s father.

According to a police source, the 13-year-old girl is studying in Class VIII at a residential school under Ramanaguda block in Rayagada district. In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the residential school remained closed since March 25 last year.
Following this, the minor girl stayed at home but used to go to her uncle’s place every night to have her dinner. She was also sleeping at her uncle’s house at night and coming back home in the morning.
Brindaban who was a neighbour of her uncle gradually developed physical relationship with the girl. Their love affair continued since last ten months. In the mean while, the minor girl became pregnant.
After the girl complained of stomach pain, her family members who were unaware of the past developments took her to the community health centre (CHC) at Ramanaguda. The minor gave birth to a baby girl inside a hired vehicle on her way to the hospital.
Rayagada Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as well as Childline officials were informed about the incident by the minor girl’s parents.
Gunupur police has recorded the minor girl’s statement Monday.
