Nayagarh: Police arrested a youth on the charge of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl in Nayagarh district Saturday.
The accused was identified as Dinabandhu Pradhan, 20, a native of Gudupangi village under Sadar police limits.
According to police, the girl was kidnapped in front of her house August 27, following which her family lodged a complaint in Town police station. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation.
By tracking the minor’s mobile phone, the police traced her to Brit Colony in Badagada, Bhubaneswar, from where she was rescued and the accused arrested.
The minor was then produced before the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The authorities took her for medical examination after recording her statement.
The minor has been kept at a child rehabilitation centre and later will handed over to her family members, police said.
Dinabandhu’s bail plea was rejected by a court and he was remanded to judicial custody, said IIC Jaydeep Mohanty.
