Puri, Jan 1: A youth was allegedly attacked by an illegal Corex syrup dealer near Urban Haat here Thursday after he refused to supply banned drugs in the city.
Rabi Behera (22) of Penthakata was admitted to the district headquarters hospital with injuries on his head and legs. A complaint has been lodged with Penthakata outpost police.
Corex dealer Shiva approached Behera near the Urban Haat in the morning and asked him to supply Corex, according to sources. An altercation ensued between the two when Behera refused to participate in the illegal business. Enraged, Shiva attacked Behera with a sharp-edged weapon. Locals rushed an injured Behera to hospital.On being informed, Pethakata outpost police reached the hospital and recorded Behera’s statement.
Behera alleged that police are aware of the illegal Corex business in the city but do not take action against the suppliers. “Police have recorded my statement, but are yet to register a case against the drug mafia. A few police officials have threatened to frame me falsely as I have raised a voice against the illegal business,” Behera said.
Penthakata outpost in-charge Nanda Panda said, “No one has attacked Behera, who was injured in a fall on the road. A complaint against Behera has been lodged by Shiva’s family.”
Shiva and his father Jaga are supplying Corex syrup illegally in the city, according to sources. The father-son duo had good rapport with a few police officials.
