Balasore: In a bizarre incident, a youth allegedly attacked a woman after her daughter reportedly rejected his marriage proposal at Shyamanandipur village under Bhograi block in this district.
Acting on the complaint of the woman, police registered a case and arrested the accused. He has been identified as Sania Hui of Kendrapara. A further probe into the incident was on.
According to reports, Sania worked as a plumber in Dubai. He had befriended a girl from Shyamanandipur village through Facebook. The two had frequent chats and grew closer.
After frequent chats, Sania gradually fell for the girl and proposed her for marriage. However, the girl rejected his marriage proposal over reasons best known to her.
Being furious over rejection, Sania boarded a flight from Dubai and reached Bhubaneswar. Instead of going to his village, he directly set off to the girl’s village to seek revenge on the rejection.
However, to his dismay, he found the girl missing in her house. He was so enraged that he attacked her mother with a billhook.
The woman sustained critical injuries and was admitted to a local hospital. After preliminary treatment, she was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.
Locals overpowered Sania and thrashed him blue and black before handing him over to police. Later, the police seized Sania’s passport from his possession and launched a further probe into the incident. He was detained for interrogation while the condition of the woman remained critical.
