Phulbani: In a tragic road mishap, a youth and a girl died after the motorcycle they were traveling on met with an accident at Budhadani under Sadar police limit in Kandhamal district late Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Ashish Digal and Deepa Kanhara.
According to a source, Ashish and Deepa were returning home after performing and participating in Ganesh puja celebration somewhere else. As they were nearing Budhadani, Ashish lost his control on the bike, leading to the mishap. The bike, which is believed to be running at great speed, rammed against the roadside guard wall. Under its impact, both the rider and pillion rider were thrown off the bike. They died on the spot.
On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem.
While local residents said traveling at very high speed proved fatal for them, the police said they have launched a detailed investigation to find out what had caused the accident.
