Jaleswar: A youth went missing in the Subarnarekha river while taking a bath along with his friend, Wednesday. As per reports, Chandan Dash (22), the only son of Banabihari Dash of Birishpur village under Laxmananath panchayat in Balasore district, had gone to take a bath in Subarnarekha river along with his friend Harish Kar (Muna), son of Jhadeswar Kar of the village, Wednesday afternoon. The duo went swimming as the water level was low in the river. But Chandan, who did not know swimming properly, went missing in the river. Harish returned to his village and informed the village sarpanch Ranjan Mohanty about the incident after he was not able to find Chandan.
A frantic search was conducted with villagers using their boats to look for the boy but to no success. Later fire brigade personnel from Jaleswar also came to rescue Chandan and searched the river till evening but could not trace him. The ODRAF team was also informed about the incident.
