Angul: A youth, Lipun Sahu, was hacked to death at Jereng Dehury Sahi village near Jarpada of Chhendipada block in Angul district by one Srikant Sahu from the same village, Wednesday.
According to reports, while the entire village was celebrating Diwali Wednesday night, a verbal spat ensued between Lipun and Srikant over a past enmity.
The altercation turned ugly when Srikant picked up a sharp weapon and attacked Lipun in a fit of rage. Lipun sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Later, Srikant surrendered before police.
The police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
