Paradip: Social media platforms seem to have become the sole place for seeking avenge for jilted lovers who post obscene pictures of their former girlfriends. A similar case has been reported from Kujang area of Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
Police Monday arrested a youth on the charge of blackmailing his former girlfriend to meet his sexual demands using her obscene pictures and videos that he had clicked while the duo were in a relationship.
Based on a complaint by the victim, police after a probe arrested the accused. He was identified as Himanshu Pradhan of Balrampur village.
According to the police, the girl, a Plus II pass-out, came in acquaintance with Pradhan while on her way to college. He belonged to a neighbouring village and frequently showed up at the girl’s place and lured her into a relationship.
The duo had planned to get married and had even established physical relations during which Pradhan managed to record their intimate moments and clicked some obscene pictures of the girl.
However, the duo broke up over after the girl’s parents objected their relationship over Pradhan’s anti-social links. But, Pradhan forced the girl to continue the relationship with him and submit to his physical demands.
The girl’s parents received marriage proposals for their daughter, but Pradhan created disruptions. At one point, when the girl did not give in, he posted her obscene pictures on the social media and they soon became viral. The matter came to the fore after the girl’s uncle came across these pictures on one such online platform.
When confronted, the girl revealed the entire incident following which her family members lodged a complaint with Kujang Police. Subsequently, police arrested Pradhan from his home.
“We found that he already has many criminal antecedents and has two cases pending against him at the local PS. He was even thrashed by the locals for misbehaving with another girl few days back. We will forward him to court today,” Tirtol SDPO Siba Charan Mallick said, Monday.
