Cuttack: Police Sunday arrested a youth on charges of rape following a complaint that he allegedly kept a physical relationship with a minor girl on the false promise of marriage.
The accused was identified as Nitia Deuri of Sabar Sahi of Nimpur in Jagatpur police limits. The victim, who is of the same area, in her complaint has also accused her aunt of forcing her to keep a physical relation with the accused youth.
The minor girl whose mother is dead lives with her father, a daily wager, at the house of her relative at Sabar Sahi, according to police sources. The girl’s father goes out everyday in search of work. Using this opportunity of the girl being alone, the aunt forced her to keep physical relation with the accused who had even promised to marry her, the victim alleged.
When the girl learnt of the real intention of the accused, she asked him not to come to her house again. The accused, however, threatened her with dire consequences. The girl’s aunt tortured her for not obeying her order, the victim stated in her complaint.
Unable to bear the trauma, the girl narrated her ordeal to her father who informed the village head about the matter. The village head advised him to lodge a complaint with the police.
The victim then lodged a complaint with Jagatpur police Sunday on the basis of which police registered a case and arrested the accused. Police conducted the medical test of both the accused and the victim later in the day. The accused will be produced in court Monday, inspector Ranjit Kumar Prusty said. However, police officials did not say what action is being contemplated against the victim’s aunt.
