Bonai: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly killed his eight-month pregnant girlfriend and then ended his life by hanging himself at Kunjar village under Gurundia police limits in Sundargarh district Tuesday.
The matter came to the fore after locals spotted their bodies Wednesday morning. They were identified as Sameer Soren and Sangita Kujur. Even as the girl’s family claimed she was murdered, nothing was ascertained as the probe is on, police said.
According to sources, Sameer and Sangita were in a relationship for years before they eloped and were staying together as husband and wife. Sangita was eight-month pregnant at the time of the incident.
The couple broke into an altercation over some issue Monday night. In a fit of rage, Sangita left the house saying she was going to her father’s home. However, locals spotted her body in a forest and alerted police. The police seized a poison bottle from near Sangita’s body.
While there was no trace of Sameer, doubts were raised he had killed the girl. However, again his body was found hanging from a tree near the village. Police seized the bodies and sent it for post-mortem. Two separate cases were registered and a probe was launched. PNN
