Bhubaneswar: A youth was stoned to death in broad daylight in Kharavela Nagar area of Bhubaneswar Sunday. The accused has been arrested.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Abdul, a native of Puruna Bazaar area in Bhadrak district who was residing in Bhubaneswar for the last couple of years and earning his livelihood by working as a helper in a truck.
The accused has been identified as Sumu Singh, a native of Dharmasala area in Jajpur district. He was also living in Bhubaneswar.
According to a source, Sumu and Sheikh Abdul had past enmity over some issues. Sunday they met in a lane behind Swosti Grand Hotel under Kharavela Nagar police limits. Soon, a verbal duel ensued. The scene turned ugly when Sumu attacked Abdul with a stone leading to his death on the spot.
On being informed, a team from Kharavela Nagar police station reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem and arrested Sumu.
A detailed probe is underway, it was learnt.
