Junagarh/Kalampur: In a tragic road mishap, a passenger died while as many as 30 more were injured as private bus Sourav skidded off a bridge and fell to a depth near T Rampur in Kalahandi district Wednesday. The deceased was Anidra Naik of Dolpas village under this block.
Police and fire brigade personnel were immediately engaged in rescue operations. Locals also helped in the rescue. The injured were rushed to the T Rampur community health centre (CHC). The incident occurred while the bus was en route to Gopinathpur from Bhawanipatna. The bus halted at T Rampur bus-stand for a while to enable passengers have food, and then continued the journey to Gopinathpur.
As per the police version, the driver lost his balance on the wheels at a point where the vehicle was about to cross a bridge near a wine shop. The vehicle turned turtle and fell off the bridge. “Almost all of the passengers were injured. Many are battling for their life with their heads and limbs broken,” local sources said.
At least 30 passengers were admitted to the local CHC, of which eight were later shifted to the Bhawanipatna-based district headquarter hospital for further treatment. The toll might increase, sources said.
