Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police Wednesday claimed they have foiled a dacoity bid and arrested three miscreants during a raid at Bana Phula Basti under Infocity police limits Tuesday night.
The police personnel identified the miscreants as Sarada Maharana (32) of Chandanpur under Chandaka police limits, Shankar Maharana (29) of Patia, and Salu alias Dilip Dehuri (23) of Baraman in Khurda district.
“At least five armed miscreants were consuming alcohol at a secluded place in Bana Phula Basti when Infocity police station officials and quick action team officials (QAT) raided the place and nabbed three of them, while two managed to flee. The miscreants were planning to commit a dacoity in Nandan Vihar area,” twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma told media persons.
“We were gathering information about the miscreants for the past few days. Subsequently, we carried out the raid under operation ‘Black Smoke’, Sharma said.
“We recovered one pistol and live ammunition from Sarada’s possession and one country made revolver with five live bullets from Shankar. A mobile phone, a scooter (OR-02-G-7090) and a dagger (bhujali) were seized during the raid,” he added.
Sharma also said one of the accused who has escaped is a native of Bihar and he reportedly used to sell arms and ammunition over here.
“On questioning the trio we found out that one of their accomplices is from Bihar and he had supplied them guns. The miscreant might have supplied guns to other goons in the city. We have launched a search operation to nab the two miscreants who are absconding,” he said.
The police commissioner also claimed the QAT registered 27 cases of illegal gun business in the city under operation Black Smoke and has seized 70 arms from miscreants.
Sources said the miscreants used to gather at a location between Chandaka and Infocity police station.
“The miscreants used to consume cannabis and brown sugar at their hideouts. The police will also investigate the source from where the miscreants procured their drugs,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, Infocity police have registered a case in this regard and the trio was produced in a court Wednesday.
