Bargarh: A doctor, who was alleged to be a quack, attempted suicide by slitting his throat after a woman patient died while undergoing treatment for a dental ailment in this town Tuesday.
The deceased, Labanga Sahu, is a native of Banabaspali on the town’s outskirt while the doctor was identified as Subodh Sahu, a native of Bandutikra in Bargarh town. The incident spread shockwaves in the area.
Locals alleged Subodh is not a registered medical practitioner but a quack and carried out treatment of patients in the guise of a doctor. According to reports, Labanga visited Subodh’s clinic accompanied by her family members when she experienced a tooth ache. The doctor administered her injection following which her condition deteriorated. She experienced a seizure.
Family members rushed her to the district headquarters hospital where doctors pronounced her brought dead. Her family members lodged a complaint against Subodh with the Town police station.
Police rushed to Sahu’s clinic when the latter suddenly took out a knife from his drawer and slit his throat. The police rescued and rushed him to the hospital from where he was shifted to VIMSAR) after his condition worsened.
